We are Worshipping Warriors

-Holy Spirit gives us power to worship God in difficult times.

This month we will review all that we have learned about becoming worshipping warriors. We will introduce the story of Paul and Silas worshipping God while in prison as an example of evidence of a worshipping warriors. Here is a devotion that speaks to the heart position needed to be a true worshiper.

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. (Acts 16:25 NIV84)

Paul and Silas were treated like criminals, when all they did was do the work of God.  And now they sat in a jail cell beaten and flogged.  Who would have blamed them for being angry with God?  We would all understand if it was recorded that they lamented that night about all of their suffering.  But that is not what happened!  Our text for today tells us that Paul and Silas prayed and sang hymns all night.  They worshiped and praised God even though they had been treated the way they had.  How is this possible?  What allowed them to be in this state of mind?  It was the attitude of their heart.  Their lives were so focused on the ministry of the kingdom of God that they were willing to experience anything, even suffering, for what they were doing.  They believed and trusted that God could work through their bad times as well as He did through their good times.  How about you and me?  Do we believe that?  We need to have the same attitude in our hearts as Paul and Silas had.  We need to praise God through the good and the bad.  We need to trust that He can, and will, work His will in and through all the circumstances we face in this life. This is the hear position of a true worshiper.

1. Acts 16:16-40 is in the New Testament. It was written as an example of what our response should be to difficult circumstances

2. We praise God because of who He is.

Our strength comes from the holy spirit who guides us and teaches us.

3. When we live a life of a true worshiper of God we must live a life of faith in God.

Show me your ways, Lord,
    teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long

Psalm 25:4-5

(Zephaniah 3:17a): “The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save.” Each time we toss

the ball into the air and catch it in the blanket, we will say a phrase of the Bible Memory Verse.

1. Children stand in a circle holding the edges of the blanket.

2. Place a ball or balloon in the center of the blanket.

3. Together, the children quickly raise the blanket to toss the ball or balloon into the air.

4. As the ball lands, lead children in saying a phrase of the Bible Memory Verse. Phrases can be divided

as follows: “true worshipers/ will worship the Father / in the Spirit/ and in truth
